According to ScientificAmerican.com, up to a third of couples in the US go through what is being referred to on social media as sleep divorce. They opt for separate sleeping arrangements in search of a better night’s rest. This modern relationship trend is catching up with many couples in India as well.

But can a sleep divorce improve your relationship with a partner or hurt it in the long run?

Radhika Mohta, a matchmaker and relationship counsellor, answered this question in an interview. She said: “The most important relationship we have is with ourselves, followed by those with the people in our inner circle and then the world at large. A well-rested mind and body is the first step to being more mindful. Speaking of sleep divorce, romantic partners may choose to sleep in different rooms, be it because of their work schedules, snoring issues, caregiving responsibilities or other reasons. If it simplifies their lives and works well for them, that’s fine.”
